To have a nice bright clear sound on a 68 change C23  .047  and replace R34 with a jumper wire. To have an PRRI amp 100%  blackface from a 68. You must also change C10 and C16  and put a Jensen Speaker

  6. I want to lower the bias on my prri 65 cos the tremelo is dependent on ot.Thing is it wont go any lower and i found out i can change a resistor to one of a higher value in the bias circuit.Which one is it and where is it located?

    quick question on the 65 prri limited, have a burned out resistor (R58), I can’t tell the what the value is due to the discoloration, can you please tell me what this resistor is? and the color of the (multiplier) line?

  8. Hello. First of all, thanks for this fantastic page, it is very useful.

    Could just explain just a bit what’s the function of C10 and C16 in the circuit?

    I understand that
    – R10 is the negative feedback resistor, makes the amp more “alive” at lower volume in the 68, hence the earlier breakup.
    – R30 is the reverb resistor, provides lower reverb mix in the 68.
    – R34 makes the baseline bass level in the 68 higher than in the 65.
    – C23 is the mids cap, gives the 65 the more traditional Fendery EQ.

    But what about C10 and C16? What are the pros and cons of going from .022 to .1 or the other way around?

    I hope it’s not a stupid question, thanks in advance!

    Just another note: I think there’s another difference between the two amps. The reverb tank in the 68 is a Ruby mid-decay one. In the 65 is an Accutronics/Belton long decay one. Or at least certain amplifiers came out of the factory that way, I’m not sure if all of them. Mine had the Ruby, which is a bit noisy and doesn’t have very long decay. I’ve seen also someone in forums saying that they have the same, so maybe Fender used both? Go figure…
